Jennifer Nelson, MA, LPCC, CEAP joined the clinic in 2020 and is located at the Golden Valley office. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional. Jennifer offers counseling services for individual adults, couples, and adolescents. Prior to entering private practice, she worked in a variety of corporate environments, including the Boeing Company as an on-site Employee Assistance Professional. She developed the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Program Series for employees at the Boeing Company. Her program series remains a living legacy as it continues to be utilized by Boeing employees at national and international locations through videotaped guided sessions on the Boeing Education Network.
Jennifer approaches the counseling relationship with solution-focused, responsive, and intuitive care. She understands most people come into the counseling relationship to feel better. As a therapist, her role is to create an open, nonjudgmental space where the diversity of life experiences can be explored with compassion. She advocates and helps to develop resiliency and offers intuitive and reflective feedback leading to positive growth and change. Her subject matter expertise includes addressing stress, performance improvement, anxiety, substance use recovery, codependency, depression, relationship issues, challenging family dynamics, grief and loss, chronic pain management, and substance use recovery. Jennifer resonates and identifies with highly sensitive people (HSP) and empaths, and works to support creating healthy boundaries for protection from an overstimulating world.
Jennifer is a first generation college student and earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota's Family Social Science Program in 1996, a Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pacific Lutheran University in 1999, became a Substance Use Disorder Professional from Bellevue College in 2010, and completed formal Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction training with the Oasis Institute affiliated with the University of Massachusetts in 2016, as well as with Mindfulness Northwest in 2019. She earned the Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP) credential in April of 2020. As a lifelong learner, her next phases of growth will be to learn the art of EMDR therapy as a trauma modality.
Jennifer is offering telehealth and in office appointments. Jennifer recently located back to Minnesota after living in Washington State. Jennifer has a dual MN and WA license and will remain licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in WA, and will be able to continue working with WA clients over telehealth.
