Ashley Nissen, MA, LPCC joined the clinic in 2019 and is located at the Golden Valley office. She is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and works with individual adults ages 18 and older. In addition, Ashley is a 200hr certified yoga teacher and incorporates yoga concepts in her work with clients. Ashley believes we are born as connected and whole human beings, but through some experiences in life we can disconnect from our authentic self, leading to emotional distress, unhelpful thought patterns and behavioral difficulties. Ashley believes that by creating a safe and supportive space, clients can courageously navigate their inner world and reconnect to their innate wisdom so that they can live a full, meaningful life. With emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, Ashley uses a collaborative, client-centered approach and tailors her sessions to support each unique client.
Using a holistic, integrative approach, Ashley draws upon mind and body treatment methods such as Brainspotting, Mindfulness and Meditation, yoga and breathwork, in addition to evidence-based practices such as Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Ashley offers services for depression, anxiety, eating disorders, life transitions, identity development and self-esteem concerns. Ashley is a highly sensitive person and particularly enjoys supporting other highly sensitive people and empaths in learning how to navigate an oftentimes overstimulating world.
Ashley graduated with a B.A. in Business Communications from Augustana College and a M.A. in Counseling from Adler Graduate School. She is LGBTQIA+ affirming, HAES-aligned and strives to be culturally aware through a social-justice lens.
